Newton Abbot, Devon
The Newton Abbot projects involve the promotion of former quarry land through both the emerging LDF and the submission of planning applications.
An initial development of 189 dwellings, B1 employment development, a new rugby club and major infrastructure was allowed on appeal in October 2006, with construction work presently underway on the majority of these developments.
Further applications for a mixed use development of approximately 140 dwellings, 10,500 square metres of B1 employment floorspace, a new 33ha Country Park including river corridor improvements and flood alleviation works, a park and change facility, formal public open space and significant major infrastructure in the form of 4 new roads were submitted in March 2008. The applications are part of an urban extension with substantial investment in infrastructure and significant environmental benefits whilst delivering housing in the most sustainable manner.
