Ilford Park, Newton Abbot, Devon
Hives Planning submitted a proposal for the development of a comprehensive Trunk Road Service Area which comprised: a petrol filling station; an amenity block of 2500m; car, caravan, coach and lorry parking; an 80 bedroom budget hotel/lodge; and a public house/restaurant. The scheme included improvements to the Drumbridges roundabout on the A38 trunk road.
Planning permission was refused by the Local Authority. Hives Planning lodged an appeal in 2007, with issues relating to need, the impact on the local economy, landscape and visual impact at the heart of the appeal. Following a complex Inquiry the scheme was allowed in December 2007 with partial costs awarded against the Council.
The drawing below shows the Masterplan layout for the approved scheme (drawing reproduced courtesy of Nicholas Pearson Associates).
Further development proposals for a redesigned trunk road service area, residential development, employment development, an energy park, and associated facilities, have been submitted to Teignbridge District Council and a public exhibition took place on the 25th July at St Catherine's Primary School, Heathfield.
